Oh hi there! Remember me? There’s a strong likelihood that the answer is no, because it’s been… (drum roll please) 98 days (!!) since I last posted here. Gulp.
I’m writing this from the side of a ball field somewhere deep in North Jersey which tells you pretty much everything you need to know about why this substack has been rather neglected of late. I’ve heard the term ‘Spring-nado’ been thrown around these parts recently. I thought December was bad for commitments, but this Spring is a whole other ball game, quite literally. Between baseball, soccer, dance, swim and my actual work (almost forgot about that!)… there’s just the tiniest amount of time left for fun stuff like this.
But fun stuff has been happening! And I’ve been busy working away on some great projects with truly ace clients who have trusted me to add color to their homes and places of work, too. I’ve been dabbling a bit with furnishing some of these spaces and have been consulting on a couple of kitchen renovations and a whole first floor re-design. I was even invited to do a speaking event (my first one!) at a gorgeous creative reset retreat where we talked about color theory and discussed the practical ways to bring color into your home. I was so thrilled to be asked to do this because 1. What a compliment! And 2. I’ve been wanting to write some color content like this for a long time.
And honestly, it was SO much fun!And also affirmation that I’m good at this shit! Talking about color, teaching about color, getting people confident to bring color into their homes… that’s my jam! It feels good to be able to confidently say ‘I know a thing or two about color’. Towards the end of the speaking session I took questions from the attendees and we did some on-the-spot problem solving. It was, without a doubt, my fave part of the whole thing. I loved hearing about the challenges these folks were having with their homes and coming up with suggestions and solutions for how they could approach it differently or with a fresh perspective.
As busy as everything is right now, I love this little spot here on the internet and have been itching to get back. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to get back here in a way that’s realistic for the pace of life i currently find myself in.
So, in an effort to enjoy this stage of life rather than resent it, and to also enjoy this little blog rather than resent it, I guess it makes sense to meet somewhere in the middle between writing something every week and not writing anything at all.
So here’s my thought. How about we have a go at making this an advice column? You share you color questions/queries/thoughts/dilemmas with me and I’ll attempt to answer them? I won’t promise to get this on any kind of regular schedule, but if I can write this from a baseball field parking lot off route 22, then I think I can make it work!
Send me your stuff! Madeline@shapesforthepeople.com
Can’t wait to hear from you :)
