Yup, you read that right! A gift guide! Hurrah!
But…now?!
Why not, I say! Why ever not?!
We might only be mere weeks into the year, but is it ever really too early for a gift guide?! Who says they have to be confined to December when we’re all overwhelmed and feeling bad about not having bought a single thing anyway? After all, are we not presented with gifting opportunities year round? Birthdays! New homes! Anniversaries! You name it. There are fabulous reasons to gift colorful, joyful presents all year long, so be sure to save this gift guide somewhere and refer to it as and when the occasion pops up!
Did I intend to get this together for December 2022? Maybe I did. But I didn’t. And I think that it was meant to be, because here we are with January, February, March birthdays to buy for, babies are being born, friends getting married and we need ideas!
Over Christmas I thought a lot about what makes a good gift, and specifically, what do I enjoy about giving and receiving gifts. For me, it’s thoughtfulness. Really thinking about that person and considering not only the things they like, but also, where are they at? What do they ‘need’ in the non-materialistic sense, and what does luxury mean to them?
My favorite gifts to receive are - no surprise - those that come with the same sentiment. So when my kids (with their dad’s guidance) bought me all the fixings for a night in (a couple of great interiors books, a face mask, a mini bottle of champagne, some chocolate, a fluffy pair of socks, a new hot water bottle!!) I, of course, burst into tears. Because yes, I’m a predictable emotional mess. The gifts themselves were marvelous, but the intention and the thoughtfulness behind those gifts? Gah. I was floored.
I know gifting is not always that easy - hello person who has everything and doesn’t want anything. Some people are just tricky to buy for. I’m not promising that you’ll find something for them off the list, but I do hope that perhaps something you see might ignite an idea for something else. That’s all 🙂
